What is Deltona HOSA?
Deltona Health Academy (HOSA) is a club/organization for attendees of Deltona High School that would like to peruse a healthcare
occupation in the future. Health Academy classes cover a variety of material
ranging from Basic Life Support, to Anatomy and Physiology. Students will be tested to obtain
multiple certifications, such as the Certified Medical Administrated Assistant, and Patient Care Assistant.
In HOSA, it is required that each student compete yearly (10th-12th grade) in
an event at Regional Competition, this being optional for 9th graders. If you
place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in your competition at Regionals, you advance to State
Competition; these guidelines also apply for advancement to National
Competition.
Deltona HOSA travels outside of classrooms by participating in many volunteer activities, such as Relay For Life, The Purple Parade, ect. Juniors and seniors are required to complete multiple hours of Job Shadowing, or Internships at a medical facility, the amount varying upon grade level. Students in the Deltona High School Health Academy have completed these hours at places such as Hospice, CORA, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, and other healthcare facilities.
To become a member in the Deltona High School Health Academy, you must apply while in 8th or 9th grade to be considered for the following school year. To learn more about HOSA, please go to the HOSA and/or Florida HOSA Website.
